Mosquito Control
When summer comes around, you don’t want to be stuck inside all day. You want to be enjoying your yard, or outdoor space, relaxing with friends and family. You definitely don’t want to have to worry about pesty mosquitoes either..
It’s not ONLY humans that enjoy the warmer months. It’s also a great time for bugs too. Of all the insects out there, mosquitoes are probably rated the highest when it comes to being the most annoying..
Think of the last time you were lying in bed, lights out, extra cumfy, and the buzz starts… That droning buzz of theirs keeps you awake at night. What’s worse, is when the buzzing stops… You know it’s out there.. Is it siting on you snacking, or is it siting on the wall, waiting for you to fall asleep. Either way, you will probably end up looking like someone was playing connect the dots.

Ever notice how mosquitoes are exceptional at hiding, until it’s the best time to annoy you? From a pond, to a neighbours pool, a hollow in a tree, or on a damp plot of ground – they can breed anywhere.. Where there’s enough moisture, you inevitably will find mosquito eggs.
You can spend all day swatting mosquitoes, using ultrasound devices, CO2, mosquito traps, etc. But if you don’t get rid of their breeding ground as well, you’re fighting a losing battle.
Did you know, that mosquito eggs can go into a dormant state over winter, and then you’re set for the same problem next year!
Break the cycle, contact us. We solve the problem at the source, as well as in the area, to ensure that we destroy the eggs, young larvae, and any mosquito in the air at the time.
What About Citronella?
Citronella is a scent that bugs don’t like. Burn a citronella candle when you’re sitting outside to keep them at bay, but this won’t get rid of them! Remember also, it’s not practical to use when you’re sleeping, so it’s just a temporary measure.
But, it may give you some peace for a while.
Standing Water!
Empty the flower trays, under pot plants as often as you can. It’s not just mosquitoes that crave a ready source of water. Ants, fleas, termites, and other bugs all need water to survive. It’s a very popular place for mosquitoes to lay their eggs.
Cutting off their water supply, is a vital part of getting rid of mosquitoes. The eggs are laid in water and require it to hatch.
Go outside and take a look around. Just walk around your outside area quickly. See if you see any of the following:
- Wells, birdbaths, ponds, water fountains, green pools
- Pot plants, flower trays.
- Dripping taps, drains, under the A/C unit
- Undrained soil, compost piles
- Mold on walls (especially true for tiger mosquitoes)
Consider Sleeping With A Fan
Going to sleep at night with a fan on, especially in Malta, is very common, but not ideal. It can, however help prevent mosquitoes from plaguing you though. This too is only a temporary solution but it may help.
Keeping Windows and Doors Closed
This in Malta, is probably not the most possible solution, especially if you don’t have A/C. But, it could be useful in keeping the insects out of your home.
Diseases!
Mosquitoes are known to carry several diseases. Having said that, thankfully most of these diseases have never been found in Malta, yet! But why take the chance, right… Malaria, Dengue, West Nile and many more.
For humans, the bites are not a major issue and shouldn’t make us sick. But, there’s a risk of a bite becoming infected by too much scratching. You could also develop hives!
The effects of fleas on pets is a lot more serious, though. Pets go through the discomfort of the scratching and may develop a sensitivity to the bites. Over time, if left untreated, the animal’s immune system becomes affected by the constant onslaught.
Unfortunately, once you have an infestation of fleas, a chemical solution is your only alternative.
